The Canon 5D MkIII and the Nikon D800 are two of the hottest cameras on the market so we put them to the test in our first of three videos. Local commercial photographer Nathan Elson (www.nathanelson.com) joins up with The Camera Store's Chris Niccolls to see how these two cameras stack up in the image quality department.

Special thanks to Mallory McGowan (www.MalloryMcGowan.com), our stylist for this shoot. Kevin Murray and Mark Langridge for their gracious assistance. Gina Baccari and Alina Cox for being our models, happily working throughout difficult conditions. Special thanks also to Nathan Elson for helping with his photographic expertise and able co-hosting.

Shot and Edited by Jordan Drake
Filmed on the Nikon D4

all your videos look great. They all look pretty similar though - by that i mean they look like they were shot using the same equipment even though the description gives the camera it was filmed with and they are very often different. Whats your secret?

I always shoot with the flattest profiles possible and then grade the images to my liking in software later. There is a type of look I like, so the images look quite similar regardless of what camera I filmed on. I also try and use large sensor cameras, so the depth of field is usually quite similar shoot to shoot.

Nikkor 24mm F1.4. Most of the filming in the studio was with this lens.

Shouldn't the MKIII beat the crap out of the D800 when it comes to video?

Otherwise i think the Nikon wins because of the extra sharpness and better Dynamic Range.

    Great Video like always :)

This one is to Jordan,Nice one mate thanks for the video section even though it was a short clip on the end,as for batteries, this is why I built my own battery pack for all my cameras from the 12V current hungry Infrared Frankenstein home brew camera and its lights through to the little DSLR rig running the T4i and home made 5600K 20 Watt LED lights, as you can see I shoot mainly at night,I should post More videos here on YT,showing the kit, most just goes to Disc,,All the best Tony.

Sonys pre-digital equipment is Minolta. Honestly, I also had a prejudice against Sony cameras. Just didnt like the idea that my TV and my camera would carry the same name... But, trying to forget this prejudice, one can see that Sony is quite able to deliver top standards results. I still think that the whole Canikon system (thirdparties products, accesories and leses options) is wider than Sony... but apart from that, both make great cameras, and which one is better is a personal question.

I actually use Canon. And no, Zeiss does not currently make auto-focus lenses for Canon & Nikon. Lastly, you're the one who's implying I don't think Nikon makes good cameras. I've never said that, because they're all good cameras... even Olympus. Now get off your daddy's computer and go to bed little boy.

Zeiss does make auto-focus for Nikon and Canon as well... you're quite thick aren't you? Give me a list of National Geographic photogs using Sony?... Yeah that's what i figured. Sony doesn't have the "system" that's why!

I don't feel like wasting more time with a Sony generation fanboy, anyone comparing a Sony a66 with an D4 or 1D-X is nuts. Enjoy your subpar Sony. After all everybody else but you knows that the person behind the camera creates...

Best youtube option so far is "block user"

The point is Zeiss only makes auto-focus lenses for Sony. And yeah, L Glass baby.

Guess what you can use Zeiss on canon and Nikon so...they are better than Sony!

Then you should say Zeiss > Nikon > Canon since you're talking about lenses.

When Sony makes a 400mm f 2.8 i'll be glad to hear what you have to say on the subject...

Nikon might have Sony sensors but I would never buy a body from a company that wasn't making photo equipment pre-digital, but hey that's me.
