  • This remains the funniest B'Way musical number I have ever seen. On stage, Bacall had no choice but to give this number away to Cooper, who clearly was stealing the show from the moment the curtain parted to reveal her. (Her first words of dialogue with her husband in the show are priceless, by the way.) RIP Marilyn Cooper, and Thank You.

  • Goodbye and RIP, Coopie. You deserved a lot better than to end up in the Actor's Fund Home in New Jersey.

  • I saw Raquel Welch in this show. She was fun. Thanks for posting both clips.

  • Jim, you are right. Bacall is no slouch at handling material like this but she is totally outclassed and is smart enough to know it and let it roll. When the audience is laughing so much its hard to hear the next line of lyric, something is going very very right. That something is Cooper.

  • She is the only woman i know that can get a laugh with every line...except..

check out Mary maxwell home insted invocation speech!

  • Nerris -- When you find your teenage daughter's diaphragm it means she's been having SEX and your little girl is no more.

I was lucky to play one of the cartoonists in this and later understudying Gerald in this show in Dinner theatre -- I got great reviews in the papers. Fun show -- one of my treasures. Wish there was a cut of "It isn't Working".

  • "You raised a teenage daughter! That's wonderful!"

"What's so wonderful? First you find her diaphragm"

    XD

I don't get that one though. XP

  • I love how every single time Marilyn Cooper makes a vocal entrance, with "what's so wonderful?" the audience breaks into laughter. R.I.P. Ms. Cooper.

  • Marilyn Cooper you were wonderful. Where have you been all my life. In your demise your performance has brought smiles to my face. May you rest in peace sweet lady.

  • I never saw the show, but I have the original cast album. I have always thought the voice of Sam's cartoon cat was Fred Ebb, recorded of course. Do you know if that's true or not?
