Riding the nice elevator at the Texas Capitol Visitor's Center. Level "A" is locked off, since those are the administrative offices, and the 4000 lb. capacity is a rarity.

Technical specs:
General-Dover/Inground Hydraulic.
Performance-4000 Lbs/40 HP.
Distance-55 feet/4 floors & 150 FPM.
Year-Modernized/1993-1994.

  • If you will notice it has the old bumpers. Nice elevator.

  • Yes, this is a nice elevator, and I too see the bumpers.

  • Somewhat.

  • That's correct.

  • Well, they have the markings "Open front/close front" on the lower panel with the alarm bell & stop switch, and on the top panel, it has "Open rear/close rear".

  • Maybe it was in the OFF left position, and has to be turned while pushing the button.

  • Is this building built on a hill?

  • 4000 lbs is 2 tons.

  • How do you tell the front from the rear controls if both sets have the line between the arrows?

  • Or maybe it was turned to the LEFT of the OFF position. Am I right, or was it in the ON "Right" position?
