kolkata metro is rocking for 26 yrs now .... and we need metro in all our cities ... it takes so much load off the roads

@catpochi No not really. Metro is full most of the time. Fares are as cheap as buses. Now with the introduction of new AC coaches, they might increase fare.

@HindiReader It is human habit to retaliate, if anything is not matching with our personal views. But I am personally 100% agree. But your way of presenting the truth is difficult to accept. Please dont try to compare with a developed nation with developing INDIA. Also as a regular passenger (since 1991 to 2007) of Kolkata metro I never felt it has any major technical problem. Also they are going to introduce fully AC coach from September 2010 (As per rail budget) for better service.

@1979antu A good metro system should be able to keep up with the times. the London metro is 150 years old, and still much more modern, and LONGER than kolkata metro. A good indian should never be proud of Indias mediocrity, we should always demand better for india, bc it deserves better

@HindiReader Sir As on today it is Just 26 years old & before the stage of Mobile, Internet, Ipad laptop we had 16.75 Km length of under ground metro system. You also should be proud of it.

@parthoba New racks are coming by September this year, partly railways are going to introduce the AC racks from Sept 2010.

@catpochi We have 3 Slab ticket in Kolkata Metro (Rs. 3 Rs. 5 & Rs. 7) This is applicable as per the distance of your travel & it is not at all expensive, as on date it is same or lower than city bus fare.

The total length is approx 24 Km. Also it is the oldest & chipset metro system in India & running since 1984.
