John Wayne vs. Randolph Scott

In 1942, John Wayne, Randolph Scott, and Marlene Dietrich teamed up for 2 films. THE SPOILERS was the first of them, followed by PITTSBURGH.

The films themselves are average, but are notable for a couple reasons: They each have American/western icons Wayne and Scott playing villains, certainly a rarity. More important, however, is that the rivalry between the two culminates in a brawl, which is the centerpiece of either film. Each claims victory, making it the only time that either (each co-sharers of the 'King of movie fistfighting' crown) ever lost a fight onscreen in their extensive resumes of them.

Their fight here is much shorter than their battle in THE SPOILERS, but it's still a hell of a contest that sees Scott defeating his friend-turned rival.

  • One of my favorite movies of all the times. Randolph Scott is so amazing as Cash Evans throughout all the movie.

  • 2:10 - one of the best shots I've ever seen in any fight scene. The timing was perfect.
