We are the robots! Forget Kraftwerk...here's the original: Oskar, he plays the accordeon, Ernest plays the saxophone and Anatole is the drummer.

Edouard R.Diomgar developed the idea for his robots as a prisoner in a german prisoners of war camp. After his release he started working on this projekt. "Les Robots music" ,an electric/pneumatic machine, playing real instruments, travelled from 1958 with an exhibition of the "Union of french Prisoners of war".Until 1984 the show could be seen in France, Italy, Belgium and the Netherlands. They have a repertoir of about 500 songs.

The film was shot at Museum fuer Kommunikation, Berlin, on April, 14, 2007, where
they could be seen for the first time after 1984.

  • This looks an awful lot like one of the Decap robot organs, which can be seen (amongst other places) in two of YouTube user happycowmusic's videos. And, if I am not mistaken, those existed before this.

  • Sorry, but I don't know anything about the Decap organs. If you are interested in the whole story about the Robots in my video, please copy the complete link from the end of my editorial notes, open it in a new window and decide for yourself if you believe in the information given there.

  • can you try to get a new video of this next time when you visit the museum?.i like those kind of music

    machines...

  • Sorry, but the robots were only shown for two weeks as a side show of the main exhibition and I made the video on the last day of their performances.

  • No; this was a real achievement, when they were first built, around 1950. Thanks for posting this rare video.

  • No, Decap improved this idea later and had there great sucses with it. These robots in this movie were the beginning of the Decap Robots. Decap has not invented the robots but used the idea and concept. The electronics of this organ needs a good restoration.

  • Use "Decap Robot Band" in your searches. That organ has much more music ability than this one, & the robots work properly. Credit should be given if this really was the first robot band built, but the Decap Robot Band is by far the best.

  • Hi, thank you so much for this video. I'm a 55y old Frenchman, living near Lyon. When I was a teenager -I mean in the years '65-'70, I've seen these robots "Les robots musiciens" at the yearly village fun fair ("Foire Ventose") in Dourdan (France) during several successive years.

It's absolutely great to see -and hear- them again more than 35 years later ! THank you again.

  • Sounds like Ernest is a bit short on air! There are apparantly some notes missing from the saxophone part. But a fascinating construction.

  • okay.actully i have found a sound recording of these

robots song:les robots rock: and a picture of that album.

  • scary!
