VHS REWIND EFFECT DONE IN AFTER EFFECTS

I recently was working on a client piece than needed a quick rewind to information earlier in the video, and I wanted a creative way to get there. I studied some rewind footage and set out to create that effect in After Effects using only standard plugins. This is the end result. I hope to be creating a tutorial soon.

No amount of filter or editing will ever perfectly replicate the real thing.

@RainbowVomitPanda I would not disagree. For the piece I used this effect in, it didn't have to look completely realistic. It was more of a pop-culture play on what rewind looks like.

This is actually really well done.

Still though, it would be nice to see someone attempt an accurate effect.

No generated rewind sound and split second pause on both rewind start and resume with static distortion blocking most of the image.
