Miniature horses Misty and Cody being clipped for the first time. Almost double the amount of hair came off Misty than Cody. Both will wear lots of rugs to keep them warm during the winter. In spring and summer, their coats should be lovely and short, making them cooler in the hot Australian sun, and keep grass seeds and bindis off them

  • I've just purchased two wooly minis that will be 2 years old on May '11. They've never been clipped -- are you using sheep sheers? The Andis I use on my Standard Poodle would probably burn out before I could get halfway through one of my miniature mammoths.

  • @mundymanor you'll need some clippers with a fair amount of power, or they'll just stall and clog up. Dog ones probably won't cut it, so to speak hehe

  • what is the point of clipping these types of ponies and then go to all the added work of 'rugging them up' after they have been clipped? whats the point, seems a bit stupid to me

  • Because they look nicer, and they feel more comfortable under their rugs over winter. When summer comes they have a nice, light summer coat which prevents grass seeds from becoming lodged and causing sores and irritations.

  • they look so much better....... I'm heading out in about 5 minutes to clip my mini for a show this weekend. I actually use human clippers, but only need to clip one mini. Wish me luck!

  • @GREENVK -- I'll skip the dog sheers! What kind do you use?

  • Wowie Misty sure looks good after all that hair gone off of her! Shes real nice :) My mini isnt clipped for the winter it jsut gets too cold here, but I just LOVE clipping all that fuzz off in the spring!
