Deep analysis, indeed, Jurek, but I think fedtrooper is absolutely on target. This tango does somehow have a sense of foreboding.

This version and the Fred Bird version both have a haunted sound to them, as if the band and the singer both sensed that Everything was about to change. Probably you are not supposed to have an image of Hitler outside the door, but knowing what was going to happen, that sense is there in the music. Even the American version with Paul Whiteman has a feeling of something lost and a nervousness about the future.
