Patricia Solar founded Izara Arts (www.izaraarts.com) in 2005 to bring income to Myanmar refugees and other minority tribes living in remote villages on the Myanmar-Thai borders. In 2008, in collaboration with the US-based Wings of Peace International Foundation, she invited a group of women from the Lahu tribe to make something they had never made before - a tapestry showing some aspect of their lives and history chosen by them. This is a video of the first lady to make and present her tapestry to Patricia. The work was subsequently exhibited at the Orlando Museum and sold. As a result of this pilot project, two further commissions have been received and more are expected.
Wait til you see pictures of the 3rd Collection after a workshop with a visiting artist. Awesome plus! and very exciting.
