That's actually an example of why Cash for Clunkers does NOT work. Why should taxpayers pay $4,500 for that piece of crap? If you want a new car, then buy it yourself. Don't do it on the taxpayer's dime.

KINDA FUNNY on this one. part out your car then drive the bare shell to the dealer and trade it. at least not quite as wasteful. but still the program is the underlying problem.

@sideslide23 Muscle cars????  What is your definition of a muscle car. As far as i know, that is a term that describes high horsepower cars of the 60's and early 70's. I don't think those would qualify. And hopefully they never will.

Here's the simple fact of why CFC did not work. The amount of energy wasted to initially build the cars, transport them to dealers, and then the energy to destroy/recycle them, far out weighs the enviromental impact of having them around. No doubt in my mind. The plastic in these cars uses alot of petroleum to manufacture, and it is not productive to recycle. They would have done better to part out these cars and possibly made money from them in the process. Stupidity at its finest.

why CFC works because it makes the highway safer not only the cars they buy gets better mileage and improve the enviroment, but it makes the road and highway safer from broken down cars stalled ont he highways, it keeps wreckless drivers that drives muscle cars off the road, it reduce teen drivers from driving wreckless in a Cheap $1500 muscle cars. so thats all I know how CFC works.

@68Barracuda11s The TC was a gussied up Le Baron. It still got better mileage than the C4C standards. Ergo, it is still a fraud.

@dborrelli74 Its actually spelled LE BARON....which that car isnt. How about you look a little closer? It is a Chrysler TC by Maserati, produced from 1989-1991, available with either a Chrysler built 2.2 Turbo II, a Misubishi sourced 3.0L V6, or a 16-valve Cosworth head version of the 2.2.

Hmm... looks like a Le Barron. Those were 4 cylinders, maybe 3.0L mitsubishi V6s. Some were turbo 4s. All of which exceeded the MPG standard that qualified for C4C to begin with. So what I see here is fraud. Unless it actually wasn't what you claim it to be, I.E. a C4C trade. Otherwise, I think you owe the taxpayers $4500 back for that one.

Nothing will really be saved. Think of all the energy used to make all those new cars. A lot of people just traded earlier than they intended. Car sales dropped way off after it ended.

If not for the program, that 2000 Explorer that was destroyed would have been traded in. Somebody could have gotten rid of an even older, worse gas mileage car, and bought the Explorer. Now that old car is still on the road because its owner can't afford to buy another car. C4C drove up used car prices.

Surely the folks at run this dealership aren't so stupid that they think somebody really drove the car around in this condition. They had another similiar car, and used parts from this one to repair/restore it to top condition. I can see that at least two posters can see that from just looking at the video.

Who can blame them? They kept a lot of valuable parts. Imagine you have a truck with new tires and wheels, and you total it. Before the insurance comes to see it, put the stock ones back on.

Yeah, spend $3 billion to save $350 million in oil. And destroying perfectly good vehicles in the process! People, there were many many good vehicles less than 10 years old and less than 100,000 miles that were destroyed through this program. Charities are losing donations because of greedy assholes, prices of used vehicles and parts will go up in the near to distant future. But Cash For Clunkers Works?!
