He doesn't have a true rock sound, but he has a good voice & I think there's a nice pathos in his performance that you really don't see that often in ANY portrayal of Jesus, not just in this musical. Jesus for some reason always seems to come across as kind of cold & bland (esp. in films) IMO. There's a sweetness to this guy that I like - I think Jesus SHOULD have warmth & kindness emanating from him & his plight in this song should really touch you. So overall I think this guy did a good job.

I don't understand people making fun of his lisp. So what? I know tons of awesome stage actors with lisps. His isn't even that bad. PLUS he's not that bad a singer. No, he's not AMAAAAAZING like Ted Neeley, who can just sing all those high notes and belt it... but this guy DOES have emotion. You can definitely hear desperation and sadness. I always feel bad for him in this song... and I really love Steven's idea of how Jesus is a more REAL character- not some almighty, amazing untouchable man.

Personally, I don't think he's that bad. Even though he's friends with the director, she wouldn't have given him the job if she knew he wouldn't do well.

This is Gethsemane. I think he's a good singer, but if you can't hit that high note, you shouldn't be singing this song. It's Gethsemane, man, the pinnacle of Jesus's character, the apex of the show. Hit the note, man, or move aside so someone else can.
