Eric Benjamin Gordon - The Will To Survive

This performance of my song, "The Will to Survive" was taped by my old friend, Dawn Kelly at Ground Zero on Memorial Day of 2011. Through the ten years that have passed since September 11, 2001, there have been many changes, both good and bad. As of the 10th Anniversary of 9/11, World Trade Center 1 is well under construction, showing that the people of New York, the United States and the world on the whole have chosen to be courageous and not let real terror affect their lives.

It feels like a vacant cellar. The pipes leak and the lights don't work.
I grope for a dirty pillow on which to cry.
No sleep and no friends to turn to, I look down, and I hug myself.

When life can trap you without reprieve, sometimes you wonder if you believe
that the greatest thing we ever have is the will to survive.

Outside in an open desert, the dunes tumble around my knees.
I reach for a fertile cactus that makes me bleed.
High wings soaring far above me, they swoop down and they see what's wrong.
I stroke them, but they retreat 'cause it's time to feed.
