Jagrup Brar MLA at Surrey Food Bank
Coast Salish Territory, Surrey BC, January 12, 2012 - Jagrup Brar continued his poverty journey on the MLA Welfare Challenge and volunteered at Surrey Food Bank. The challenge to live on $610 a month was issued by Raise the Rates to all MLA's in BC.
At the food bank and while delivering hampers, he met and talked with mothers, seniors, people with disabilities and people looking for work living in poverty. They are forced to rely on the generosity and compassion of other people because the system and governments failed them. There is an urgent need to raise welfare rates, wages and pensions raised so people can live in dignity and not rely on charity.
After a few more days in Surrey, Jagrup Brar moves to Vancouver. W2TV will have more of his journey and experiences and those of others as Brar continues the MLA Welfare Challenge.

Everyone spoke eloquently and did a great service for this cause. I am particularly impressed with Jagrup Brar (an MLA!) for having the courage to take on this *one month* challenge. Also, big applause to the people who came up with the idea.. very creative, very smart! And thanks to the folks at W2TV for their effort in creating and posting this excellent video! What a breath of fresh air!
