The Death of Yugoslavia is a BBC documentary series first broadcast in 1995, and is also the name of a book written by Allan Little and Laura Silber that accompanies the series. It covers the collapse of the former Yugoslavia. It is notable in its combination of never-before-seen archive footage interspersed with interviews of most of the main players in the conflict, including Slobodan Milošević, Radovan Karadžić, Franjo Tuđman and Alija Izetbegović. This format, pioneered by the programme's production company, Brian Lapping Associates, was very influential and the company produced many others in similar style.
The six parts were entitled:
1. "Enter Nationalism"
2. "The Road to War"
3. "Wars of Independence"
4. "The Gates of Hell"
5. "A Safe Area"
6. "Pax Americana"
The series was awarded with a BAFTA award in 1996 for Best Factual Series. Because of the series large amount of interviews with prominent leaders and commanders of the conflict, it has been frequently used by ICTY in war crimes prosecutions.
All the papers relating to the documentary series, including full transcripts of the many valuable interviews conducted with participants, are lodged at the Liddell Hart Centre for Military Archives at King's College, University of London.

During the trial of Milošević before the ICTY, Judge Bonomy called the nature of much of the commentary "tendentious". This was because there were instances in which an interview in the Serbian language was subtitled incorrectly and often in a misleading manner (for example, the subtitling translated an interviewee saying that "Milosevic always won the elections on a nationalistic platform and nothing else", rather than "... on a national platform... ")

  • I see you've reuploaded it and fixed the problem. Good stuff. I'm sure I'll come back and watch it again sometime in the future.

Great documentary, it explains the whole conflict in an unbiased way. Thanks.

  • @miles2057 Yes, I've just re-uploaded it. Hopefully, this time should play to the end. I've also unlisted the previous one.

Thank you again for pointing out the playing problem at 29:25 of the previous uploaded one.

  • Everyone are fault but serbs the most.

  • I grew up in the former Yugoslavia and I say this with love...a lot of the people there have the intelligence of retards. They can't have their own countries...they need to be taken over by a country of average intelligence humans to force them to live like normal humans. Just watch videos from there...they throw rocks at gay prides, in the music videos they show orchestra pretending to play instruments which are not in the song, they're nationalists, really religious too...just pure retarded

  • great discussions. YOU could face extinction. wtf

  • @mmmcculloch3

I couldn't agree with you more my friend. War and hatred breaks out when a people don't see others as also being people, but instead a colour, creed, or race. Peace.

  • @Paddyllfixit Very good point! Many people press the issue of: "Just do what's best for you." I can't think of a more dangerous mindset. If we as the human race, even try to agree on laws, formed by ourselves, we will always lead to a downward spiral. It is all about theology and acknowledging a creator, who has a higher standard for us than just to eat, sleep, breed, and work. Keep up the good thoughts.

  • @sofianomar838

so what about the psychopathic serial killers who believe they're doing the world a favour by murdering prostitutes? Are they not guilty because they believe that what they're doing is right?

  • Antidefm great thnx for upload from me as well. This is really AWSOME document because of personal accounts of all crucial players and head of states. By 2011: Karadic, Mladic, Milosevic and Slavic each has been indated for crimes against humanity and war crimes, only of those from this movie I know. I know some Croats been convicted and indated as well.

  • @klesovsky727. Also Hitler and Stalin believed they were right. One of worst atrocities in human history were done by ppl who believed they were right and who "wanted good". I always thought that bad ppl are simply the ones who do bad things - and thats it. It does not matter what u want or believe but what u do. Not trying to take sides, just pointing principle. Cheers!

  • Thanks again for the upload. I told most of my acquaintances about this documentary. I'll hope they will watch it. We shouldn't forget what happened in Bosnia.
