What good is the best technology if nobody is interested? It's common knowledge (or should be) that corporate research results in major technological breakthroughs exceedingly faster than generic research, and what drives corporate research is consumer demand.

So what good is any energy-crisis-solving technology if nobody will pay for it? What is most important is that truly green products come with consumer education to create demand for the product, rather than focus on its shortcomings (as was the case in the first so-called death of the electric car).

So, to convince companies to fund an idea, consumer demand must be demonstrated in advance. This is the only way to get zero emissions vehicles (and electrics are the only ones) on the road in a way that can actually change the world.

There is no change without a price. The goal of this XPrize is to make the price as affordable as possible on an attractive product.

  • Poor voice over choice.

  • Yeah, that was me. Thanks.

  • decided by a focus group? doesn't sound very specific...

  • Yeah, well, try cramming all those details into two minutes.

  • The world has been cooling since 2005: Go outside, see!

  • A three-year cooling period doesn't mean there is no long-term warming trend. That's basic statistics. Any real-world graph has ups and downs all over, but what we look at is the larger direction of the data.

In any case, we still only have a limited amount of oil in the earth. Imagine what would happen if we could no longer make steel or plastic! Plus, gas autos contribute to lung cancer by polluting populated areas.

  • we will run out of hydrogen?

    Then how will we breath?

Also, manufacturing the components needed for a true electric vehicle costs the same as producing and fueling a mildly performance oriented 4 cylinder for 25 years.

We don't need electric, we need more diesel powered alternatives, europe does it, aussie land does it, canuckistan does it.....so why can't we?

Oh right, the greeners decry it as "EVIL because of soot"

Soot is, for the most part, harmless to the environment.

  • He's right, If we all used electric cars the world would be a better place. There are only a few electric cars today. The leaf, Volt, I-miev, and smartcar electric, and a geewiz are the only being made by big companies, It's 2011 And have the technology to make electric cars only. You may ask "wont it cost alot to charge?" It wnont because you could mount solar pannels on you're garage roof or house roof. You see people, If we power'ed are houses cars and building by electricity. There be no GW

  • @mistreeman It's now 2011 and its still cooling.

  • @jeffdarga100 These things run more energy friendly. So your question to you when oil is not required. See my last post ;)

  • @V8Fiero2M8 Your gallon of fuel costs around 5.5-7.5KWH to process. That electricity takes an electric car further than any normally fuelled car.

So lets cut out the middleman who hates us anyway.

  • Crisis is not only oil. It's limited atmosphere capacity. Fossil fuels are bad. But how about radiation from nuclear plants that will have to power up recharging of those cars? Nuclear plants like the one that blew up in Japan or Chernobyl. Where will you get electricity to power your electric cars? Your house? First people need to be interested how to make or get the electricity. From the house is not the answer. Wind, gravity, and the sun, there also must be new ways to produce electricity.

  • cool video do you need a licence to drive these vircakes also what age do you need to be in the uk?

  • voice-over was good enough for me LOL. great video. May I invite you to visit our organisation and talk about your goals and ours? I believe we could make a real difference by joining our efforts! (thezeitgeistmovement) thanks for your time!

  • And what will be used to generate the electricity to run this car ?
