Caught Out... The way forward for fishery subsidies

This short UNEP documentary draws the attention of the viewer to the causes of overfishing, the role of fisheries subsidies and approaches to fisheries reform. It underlines the importance of fisheries subsidies reform and in this context refers to the valuable role that new WTO rules on fisheries subsidies could play. The film also points out the need for special and differential treatment for developing countries in order to ensure that new rules would not represent a hindrance to the sustainable development of their fisheries and describes the vital role of sustainability criteria for subsidies that would be exempt from a prohibition.
