Tape drives are pretty compact for their capacity, and importantly, are robust against EMI and EMP threats. So, they're a great option for "survive the attack" hudderites like me. Even a single high energy cosmic ray can corrupt a flash drive, not a problem with tape storage. This one was designed for about 8 Gig and has a USB interface so its easy to use.

  • Sorry, I never got around to posting the schematic, and yes it is a scam. The memory is a thumb drive inside. The lights and motor spinning are purely for looks, but they are triggered by accessing the memory stick, so its kind of authentic. I was going to make a "making of" scam video too but never got to it.

  • @CastleVintners Should I create a real reel to reel computer data tape drive using S-VHS tape?

  • @jjovereats if you know how to the for sure do it! I only had the skills and knowledge to fake it....

  • @CastleVintners Find the PCM-X3, make mods to make it more reliable (i.e. make it work perfectly within the limits of data recovery), make it work for S-VHS and ED-Beta, and miniDV users will be fine also.

  • @CastleVintners How about a real one that you just put a tape reel in?

  • I tried finding the schematic but couldn't. I hope this isn't a joke. Looks really awesome if its not a joke
