i test drove both a 2009 wrx and a 2009 rx8 r3 and yes straight line everytime the rex will win and felt a lot faster but the 8 is not a sport compact it is a true rwd sports car. The 8 handles so much better it is a auto x car right from the factory. If you buy a 8 for 1/4 mile racer your stupid and go buy a rex and rent fast and the furious. The 09 rex felt like garbage the only it had over the 8 was the stright line speed. Thats why i went with the r3.

Well, I hate to inform you of this, but with just a set of lowering springs the WRX will keep up, if not outrun the RX-8 in the twisties and auto crossing. The OEM springs on the WRX is it's major downfall in handling. However, I wouldn't necessarily call it garbage, but it is definitely a disappointment.

take the rx8 onto the track and i promise you will be amazed by what it can do.... im not saying it will beat any car cuz thats up to the drivers.... but it can keep up.... with only 180rwhp and 140lbs of tq... btw,,, how does the new wrx drive?? i have not yet driven any of the new models..

I truly agree with what it could do on the road course. The car handles amazingly well, and this video, by no means, is projected to bash on the RX-8. These videos are aimed to show users what the new WRX can do against other vehicles.

The new WRX drives great, however, it's flawed on the stock suspension.. A little bit much on the side of body roll and the new GTI can outrun it on a road course.

what makes me delusional? the fact that i see the faults of rx8? the fact that i can admit when another car has better perfermance? lol... me being a mazda fan who wants a rotary powered monster sometime in the next 10 years is that what makes you think im delusional?

@somanymods but yes you are correct,,, i love the rx8 but i am in no way blind to see its imperfections,,, many small designer flaws along with things that could be corrected out of factory to improve performance... but i love it and its my humble opinion,,, i know someday mazda will make a rotary powered monster that will dominate all sports cars in its class hehe =]

@somanymods i will take your word for those times,,, but take into consideration lap times from a viewpoint of different car testers times,,, just because c&d got a 3.19.0 lap time doesnt mean another driver will get exact time... i will be first to say i would probably be below that time... i consider myself a really good driver,,, and can do alot with almost any car, but those are pros in most cases test driving,,, an example i like for instance is on bbc top gear rx8 got same lap time as m3

Don't get me wrong I love what the rx-8 is, and I agree about the wrx not feeling that sporty, but the R3 can barely keep up stock and with more mods the difference will get worse.

@allstarcman I would sell it and get a car that is more power moddable. Don't get me wrong every car serves its purpose, but an RX8 is not meant to be a red light monster. It's meant to look cute, sporty and take turns nice and quick.

Yea, thats my complaint with the 09 WRX. the body roll is horrit. Its not so much the suspension as it is the crappy stock stablizer bars. The need to be bigger for sure.

my 2 fav cars. the wrx, is a monster and an amazing piece of engineering, the rx8 is a great handler, and a great value used.

and short shifter .... and they have done wonders in terms of driving pleasure and just the feel... everytime i drive my friends rx8 i am reminded how good it was to replace those few things... i would also recomend getting ipod intergration kit... if you have drive around alot it makes driving expierence more enjoyable..
