  • I can't believe how totally calm Cernan was. He was the ultimate cool guy during Apollo 17.

  • Sure was, not to take anything away from Pete Conrad, who sounded during the landing of 12 like a kid discovering new presents under the tree on Christmas.

  • After hearing ludicrous explanations of how the missions were faked one realizes that there is no talking to these conspiracy minded people. Their version of what "really" happened during the launch sequence is a gem- hilarious if it weren't so stupid. And then to hear that some would "stake my life that it's a hoax!"...well...they'd sure be dead, or at least get socked in the face by Buzz Aldrin!! :-)

  • I'll explain it to you....you're a dope.

  • @rranswerman Pete Conrad was a great guy. I'm sure you would be dying of excitement too if you walked on the mooN!

  • @awasoruk It was the color television camera that was fried after being pointed to the sun. The 16mm camera that filmed the lunar landing for this mission was unaffected. It's been a long time since I watched my Spacecraft Films set for this mission to confirm if they had the camera pointed out the window during any of the moonwalk. Fortunately, Al Bean was not punished for the camera oops (one oh shit normally erases 1,000 attaboys) as he still got to command the second manned Skylab.

  • @Tweekerhead OK, I see. But I really don't understand why Kubrick should have been involved? But, there's much that's hard to understand about these hoax-believers...

  • @YDDES The Kubrick thing, was actually first alleged by the Flat Earth Society ! True, they said the Moon is a disc about 32ft. diameter, along with the Sun.

Is that not hilarious? When I got into this hoax fray a few months ago, that was the first thing that hit me.

The F.E.S.folks were the ones who said Kubrick directed the fake landings. Figures eh'.

In mirroring the arrogance of the hoax community, I've decided they're all Flat Earthers'.

Join me in projection, really pisses em' off.

  • @ferdy1972 Why do You uneducated hoaxers keep talking about Kubrick regarding the lunar landings? Can You point to just ONE single scene from any of his films that looks like the scenes from the Moon landings? I guess You are just repeating some crap You've heard from others, without beeing able to make an intelligent comparision Yourself.

  • @johnsmdm, I listened to the entire debate. My conclusion was that the dope-smoking comedian won the audience and Phil Plait was still correct. Plait is a fabulous PhD, but he's not the finest of communicators and despite knowing his science, he was caught off guard by the most common of hoax theorist hobby horses. I don't think he could possibly imagine the bizarre ideas Rogan threw at him. I'm a nice guy, but I wouldn't be so gentle with Joey. ;)

  • @LunarTuner ...you need to answer to the "gatekeeper", Joe Rogan...we will await this debate sir...he debated Phil Plait on YT....sir...

  • @ferdy1972 Kubrick's work on 2001 looked like donkey crap compared to the real stuff. He borrowed and old Zeiss camera lens NASA had used. Other than that, he had nothing to do with Apollo and there is no documentation or eyewitness account of him being involved. This looks NOTHING like his own work and any cinematographer will tell you that.

  • Cool to see the Heiligenschein around the shadow of the LM as the sun reflects off the lunar regolith. Note how much more relaxed and playful these guys are compared to the hyper-focused first landing.

  • @rranswerman In answer to your comment about the lack of footage for the lift off: alas, Alan Bean pointed their new color video camera at the sun just after arrival and destroyed the vidicon tube. So, no video of any of the mission from that moment on, including the lift off. Poor guy, I feel for him.
