Genesis - In Too Deep
From the album Invisible Touch.

"In Too Deep" is the fourth track on the 1986 Genesis album Invisible Touch. It was released as the second single from the LP in the UK (was the fifth single in the US). A performance of the song was included on the 1992 live album The Shorts.

The lyric of the song was written by singer Phil Collins after he was approached to write a song for the soundtrack of the movie Mona Lisa.

In a 2007 interview with the website Genesis-The Movement, Tony Banks and Mike Rutherford remarked that "In Too Deep" may make its way onto the setlist for the North American leg of the Turn It On Again tour. It was not played on the European portion, but said this song may replace "Ripples", as "In Too Deep" was a bigger hit in America than Europe and vice versa. Ultimately, however, the set list was not changed for the North American tour.

B-side: "Do The Neurotic"
Released: 23 August 1986 (UK) // 18 January 1987 (USA)
Recorded: The Farm, Surrey; 1985-1986
Genre: Soft rock
Label: Atlantic, Virgin
Producer(s): Genesis, Hugh Padgham

  • miss you Phil !!

  • @doctorfeelucky HAHA what a nerd!

  • @tehprojektzero Please relisten to Wind and Wuthering and Trick of the Tail. I love the Peter Gabriel work, but if you do not like the artsy element, start listening where Phil took over vocals, I think you will grow to love it. :)

  • Say it don't spray it @ 2:25

  • @NathanNColtingway both of you guys are right and both of ya'll just made me realize. Most of my favorite songs are from the 80's and 90's but somebody introduced a new sound good enough for me to enjoy last year. I am currently waiting on what will come up this year.

  • @Coletrain481 what?

  • My girlfriend and I were on a road trip and I was playing my Phil Collins CD. This was the first time she ever heard of Phil Collins except for Tarzan. I explained to her what I know about him and Genesis. We listened to the whole CD, she went back to her dorm room, stayed up all night looking up Phil Collins and Genesis on Youtube.

  • to my ex husband

  • Why can't I get American Psycho out of my head?

  • The song is extremely uplifting. Their lyrics are as positive and affirmative as anything I've heard in rock. Phil Collins' solo career seems to be more commercial and therefore more satisfying, in a narrower way. Especially songs like In the Air Tonight and Against All Odds. But I also think Phil Collins works best within the confines of the group, than as a solo artist, and I stress the word artist.
