it sucks that most grads of vfs end up in the independant film industry making no money

In our experience, many of our grads work on independent projects because that's where they want to be. They want the independence. Many others straddle indie and mainstream. At the same time, a VERY significant number work on mainstream, a-list productions. Check out vfs(dot)com/2009 to see a lot of examples from this past year alone.
