I'm a first generation, genuine, California Okie too. I heard every story about the dust bowl and that hard trip out to California, from my Grandma.
She said that first old house they stayed in had holes in the walls big enough to throw a dog through!
What's the first words an Okie baby learns?
Momma, Daddy and Bakersfield.
I have walked the streets of Bakersfield, going to Pete Jones music store to get me some new guitar strings!

I've always loved this song. I sure wish my 8track player hadn't shredded my copy of this album....

Buck Owens was and is country music....he changed the face of music in the 1960's.
I was raised in the San Joaquin valley. I love this song. Buck really sings this song. I love the line, "I am born in bred, corn bread feed, California Oakie". THIS SONG ROCKS!
