I'll be honest, I am not much of an Ashley fan. I think she is annoying as hell: she wines too much, dies too often, and is never captured for long enough. But lets be honest, if someone like Jill, Claire, or Ada was the president's daughter they wouldn't need saving would they? Simply put, without Ashley, there would be no RE4... and I suppose that makes up for her, uh...

...shortcomings.

I actually believe that Leon and Ashley would make an ok couple... I only say that because Ashley is the type of girl that easily gets into sticky situations and Leon always helps her out. But I agree with people when they say that she is really annoying.
