Nitro-powered cars and trucks are more popular than ever thanks to their relative ease of use, the visceral experience they provide thanks to the sounds of their engines and their tremendous tops speeds. When you're first starting out with a nitro vehicle, the learning curve can be relatively steep in learning how to start and tune your vehicle's engine. While manuals can tell you what to do to get the most out of your engine sometimes it can be challenging to understand what's being described if you don't have the experience to back it up. That's where this guide comes into play as we've taken the next step to help show you exactly what the components of your engine are that affect performance, how to tune the engine and how to help keep things running smoothly.
We've been lucky to catch up with Dan Hissam of Losi. Dan is the man behind some of the latest engines to come off the assembly line under the Losi name including the 350 and 454 engines found in the 8IGHT 2.0 RTR and the 8IGHT-T 2.0 RTR along with the Nitrotec-series of engines. Dan brings his many years of experience to the Losi group and we were lucky enough to spend some time with him. From understanding the different components of your engine and carburetor, covering basic tuning terms and descriptions, and helping you get your tune on, we hope this will provide you with the information you need to become a successful engine tuner.

  • I Have just bought a losi eight 2.0 rtr and after running in my car is over heatingin low speeds all settings are set at factory settings and im using 25% Neo+ fuel any tips my car temp gets up bout 240 f

  • @TheChelsea0094 240 actually isn't bad at all. You're actually right in the prime area. If you want to cool things down you could open both the low and high speed needle about an hour (1/12 of a turn) but honestly if it's developing good power I'd leave it as-is.

  • can i switch to 30% fuel after breaking in with 20%...

  • @TheCagomoC You generally want to break in with the same fuel you're going to run on a day-to-day basis.

  • he did not devlope the 454 LRP delovped the 454 lol

  • @wirelesscps LRP had nothing to do with the development of the Losi 454 engine that is included with the 8IGHT-T 2.0 RTR or the LST XXL
