Highley is the only station along the Severn Valley Railway to have a single platform, but has more extensive sidings which served 4 local coal mines. The station is actually about a mile away from Highley, sitting immediately next to the riverside village of Stanley. A flight of steps from the Highley station platform take you straight down into the centre of the village and onto the banks of the River Severn, making Highley the closest station to the river on the Severn Valley line. These photos were taken just prior to the installation of a new pedestrian footbridge. The Severn Valley Railway's 'Engine House' visitor and education centre is located at the Highley site.
