A really spectacular RC plane crash

As far as RC plane crashes go, this is a pretty good one.

Yes, here are the best shots we got of the moments when the Flying Trainer RC plane crashes into the control tower -- the moment of impact so to speak.

Unfortunately, the plan to fly into the angle-iron framework that supports the tower went somewhat astray and I pulled too much up elevator at the last moment -- sending the model smashing into the handrails around the tower building.

As a result, instead of all the bits shooting out the other side, many of them actually went through the door and into the tower -- and we pretty much missed the moment of impact from all our camera angles.

However, I think you'll agree -- it was still pretty cool and a fitting end for such a great old model.

Note how well an oil-soaked nitro plane burns!

Hay Bruce, How did the cheap servos go? Are they impact resistant??

@jimnrel Not very impact resistant. Broke the output shaft off one of them and broke the gears in nearly all of them.

@IRisingFuryI For a start -- it was so old and oil-soaked that it barely flew -- *NOT* a model you would give to anyone you liked, let alone a beginner! Secondly, it wasn't dangerous. We planned the whole thing down to the finest detail -- hence nobody was hurt, no collateral damage occurred. Why are there some people out there who just don't like seeing other folks have good clean fun?

Personally, I think this is one of the best ways to retire old models. Go out with a spectacular bang for your final flight.
