This short demonstration gives a tutorial on how to map in ArcGIS software using a tablet PC with a GPS receiver attached.

Equipment used: Tablet PC is an HP 2710P, the GPS receiver attaches at the USB port and is made by Rayming, and the software is ESRI's ArcGIS ver. 9.x.

  • OMG too much fucking work! This is why I love my Android tablet.

  • @Chaz2096 Looks to me like an Android tablet cannot map. Can you use a pen and GPS to map you're own points w/ an Android? It doesn't look like it to me. So, yes, this method, using a real tablet PC is a lot of work, but it is the only way, right now, to map (do GIS) in real-time. That is the main problem that I see, with the Mac version of the Android, the iPad. You cannot make your own maps. If I'm wrong, please direct me to videos showing someone making their own maps using an Android.

  • @GISatVassar Nope. Cant do that. You have way more features. I just like the ease and speed of the Android GPS software. If anyone is thinking about getting an Android tablet DO YOUR HOMEWORK! I found out that there are very bad models out there.

  • This is Cool, although some specification would have helped, for example, what type of a GPS model works best, or which software and tablet pc configuration etc. Finaly, how did the shape file show up on ArcGIS would have been awesome
