On January 28, 1986, NASA Challenger mission STS-51-L ended in tragedy when the shuttle exploded 73 seconds after takeoff.  On board was physicist Ronald E. McNair, who was the second African American to enter space. But first, he was a kid with big dreams in Lake City, South Carolina.

It's so strange to grow up in a time where there wasn't racial separation but to see it in videos like these.

Rest in Peace Ron E McNair, from the little 9 year old boy checking out books in a white only library to the astronaut he strived to be most of his life.

I love this video! This video just shows you the power of literacy and it can open opportunities for not only minorities, but for all colors to achieve greater things in life. Rest In Peace to Ron E. McNair - your legacy as an astronaut lives on. For a 9 year boy who wanted to check out books to have your name at the library...shows the true impact he left.

It's a shame that such a talented, dedicated human being had to die.

I keep picturing myself in his shoes when it comes to similar events. He must've been a great guy to keep all that motivation and ambition. Rest in Peace Ron E McNair.

idk why but this made me teary eyed. just the way he told the story, he only wanted to think of the good/funny. it must have been so hard to lose his brother let alone watching him die when that rocket blew up. sad that that he died making his dream come true.
