Targeting is a way to work with fearful dogs in different ways. I have used it to practice specific behaviors, like moving toward me or another person, introducing new objects and desensitizing to hands.

  • Some breeds (sight hounds, scent hounds) are very tough to get reliable recalls from. It's not impossible but takes lots of work and practice. Check out the other targeting videos I've made that show how I use it to help my scared dog practice a recall. Targeting is not recall, just helps practice the behavior. So 'touch it' is a game to help the dog feel good about approaching me. 'Come' has its own cue and reward (maybe a toss of something, or treat). Make being with you better than all else.

  • Great work and great video!

  • He looks really calm and comfortable with you!

  • Wow I liked this video I also adopted a dog he is shy but I love him so much and Im trying to help him to be confortable with his new life.

  • very good stuff.

We need help with a new dog that "bolts" if she is not on a leash. Literally takes off and doesn't stop.

Always comes back but man it is frustrating when it happens.

  • Beautiful!
