The new WKRP in Cincinnati aired in 1991, and I started taping a few of the earliest episodes, starting with this one, episode 2, "Where Are We Going" Part 2. It had the worst timeslot, 11:35 p.m. on Sunday night.

Needless to say, I didn't tape very many episodes, and the tape itself has since deteriorated, so I apologize for the jumpy and jittery picture you see here. There was no way to adjust it, it is what it is. I didn't want to just throw the tape away since there are no other new WKRPs on youtube, and it's not on DVD, and it's never in syndication. So, I had to upload it as is. It's still watchable.

The show didn't last, and suffered from story problems from Day 1. It lasted two seasons, then was cancelled. Part of its problem was that it tried to remake classic WKRP episodes, mimicking similar storylines, and the station itself never advanced very far: still one salesperson, same guy doing news, still presumably on AM, even though it's rock and roll (at least they updated the music!) Even singly owned by Mama Carlson, as revealed in this episode. Even by 1991, modern radio was corporate-owned.

Well, at least they tried.

  • I remember watching this show back when I was in the third grade. My parents introduced me to it and its a shame this version didn't last very long. A lot of people didn't like it but I thought it was pretty amazing.
