@EMGColonel Thank you so much for this tip. It struck me that if candlewax can reduce the wear of a needle on a record, it certainly should work the other way as well. I am using thornwood needles with my HMV 163. Some records work well with these, whereas others wear down the needle tips too fast. But, now, thanks to candlewax, I can play most any record with these needles. I rub ground stearine powder onto the records. Then I let the wooden needle polish the grooves. The effect is permanent.

I see you are using some sort of wax on your records. I would like to know what kind of product this is and what effect it has. Could you please inform me ?

I'm not sure either, it does sound more like 'keel' than 'kill' to me, though keelhauling, which by the way was done along the width of a ship, often was as deadly as hanging. sailors were tugged from one side to the other, giving them a single breath before being dunked again.

@syncopeter Yes, and think of the accretions & sea creatures that woud accumulate on a ship - it doesn't bear thinking about !

Kill them all I reckon. Like the look of your room there, interesting pictures and can I see Churchill's WW2 history on the shelf?

@bellyruffian No that's "The decline & Fall of the Roman Empire " by Edward Gibbon and "The History of Mi5"
