February 25th saw a reasonably big congregation of students arrive in London to protest to Universities UK over potential rises in tuition fees and the cap on them. Organised by various student unions including Bradford, Cambridge, Sussex and Manchester, as well as some NUS groups, the "Another Education Is Possible" coalition, supported by the Socialist Workers' Party, and speakers from all over, the event should have been a roaring success. Yet apart from a pre-written article in the Guardian the protest has achieved precisely zero press. What went wrong? And why, when getting rid of fees is so central to our youth message, why did Liberal Youth (and the Greens) steer well clear?
