It's been a long time since a much younger Stan moved down to Basildon.. 60 years in fact.

Yep.. 1949 it was when Stan, his Mum and brother Sid moved out of their prefab in East London and took up residence in the new town. Very pleased they were too.

And now.. 60 years later in Basildon's diamond anniversary year we find diamond geezer Stan pondering on his years "Out in the Sticks".

When I was younger, still ad me air
East End falling down.
Then the Queen decreed, Let there be Basildon!
It came flat packed.. Didnt take long

House in Long Riding, garden and trees
Couldnt ask for more
A pint and a fight with me mates on a Sunday

Town just grew and grew (ah ah ah ah ah)
And though it seems absurd

Closed down me factory, pubs are shut too
Robins long since gone
Once upon a time youd see Depeche play live
Moyet, Pinkees ..er ..Scott out of Five

Tough on me pension, gardens all weeds
Rozzers at me door.
Basildons Sixty a little bit shifty
But eres to Sixty more!

Every Summer Gloucester Park for Basfest
If the weathers nice..Which it never is
Town has really changed
Grandchildren on the thieve
Woolworths down the drain

Come the Olympics, well do us proud,
Make things nice and new,
Try the local dish, theres choice to amaze
The Beer will keep you running for days.

Mother and Chavvy, its got some form
But I love it, thats for sure
So Happy Birthday, Basildon New Town

I reckon it was the new hope, a new dawn, a new era.

Sadly what architects saw as visionary back then seems to of aged considerably.

I think youre right.. It was a new dawn and there was hope.

The trouble with architects.. invariably they dont LIVE in the places they design.

Legend has it that places like Craylands and Five Links (Alcatraz) won awards at the beginning.

Hello,

Sorry your having trouble viewing the video.

I run it through a couple of times and was OK, then just in case, I also deleted all my history/cache etc and played it a couple more times without a hitch.. all seemed to be well.

Haven't heard from anyone else with playback problems.. Not sure what else to suggest but hope you get to see it all at some point.
