Also known as the Second Korean War, the period 1966 to 1969
witnessed over 150 U.S. fatalities with American, South Korean
and U.N. peace- keeping forces defending South Korea against
over 4,000 hostile North Korean intrusions. The 160-mile long
division line, known as the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ), runs along
the 38th Parallel cutting Korea approximately in half. It is the most
heavily militarized border on the planet. This ceremony on Veterans
Day, November 11, 2006 was to commemorate the sacrifices made
for the defense of freedom and democracy during a period when
all the public heard about was Vietnam. A commemorative plaque
was prepared with the goal of officially incorporating it in the
Korean War Veterans Memorial by Veterans Day 2009.

  • there is supposed to be a clear picture of the plaque as Mark is reading the language. I need to fix this - it just shows as a black square. - Tom
