  • What are they doing during with Laurent Hilaire? Is it a pas de deux class? It looks really difficult to remember for a class...

  • @26LGL26 It's the Pas de deux of Clara and the Prince which opens Act II (not to be confused with the Grand Pas danced later in the same act).

  • @theamazingsoter Ok. I recognize the music now. I was a bit confused because there was so much people that were rehearsing at the same time.

Thank you for sharing. I saw this at the movies last year but the cinema cut a part of the DVD. I think it was that section because I don't remember that I saw this.

  • @26LGL26 You're most welcome. Sorry for the bad quality.

  • This footage is from Frederick Wiseman, right? I don't know if all of this was actually in the feature doc, LA DANSE, but it is similar if not exactly (possibly from the many hours of footage that didn't make it into the finished film). Whose choreography is the NUTCRACKER being rehearsed here? It looks a little like Nureyev's, I think (been awhile).

  • @AvalonMorley Yes, this is from the finished La Danse. @0:53 They are rehearsing the final combinations of the 2nd Pas de deux (there are three of them in Nureyev's "Nutcracker"), which opens Act II. You can tell it was choreographed by Nureyev even just watching a few steps. :)

  • @redblonde The Opéra de Paris is the oldest ballet company, with centuries of incredible history, and is currently one of the best companies in the world. The day they close, if that ever happens, will be a tragedy for the dance world. I can't say the same of day you stop trolling around YouTube, though.

  • Thanks!
