Recently, Sora got a big update patch that balanced difficulty and added a brand-new Extra Stage (Special), as well as a Special mode that cranks difficulty to new levels. Because the game wasn't hard enough, right? RIGHT?

The game really feels harder now and retrying stages over and over and over becomes a real pain in the rear.

This is some sort of self-test to show some cheap tactics to beat the stage, midboss and the damn boss. That guy drove me mad. It really drove me crazy. I was upset and almost at the verge of hating this game forever and sending it to the bottom of my library. But, no, I paid for this at Comiket and I was even happy with easy mode. One measly Stage 3 boss couldn't defeat me!

Thanks to the people at the DS forums for all the tips and advises. I could finally give this damn boss his own medicine. Taste my artillery, you damn "•$•"%$•%!

Since I don't have all the weapons unlocked yet (I played little after the trial), my special weapon is still the sword, which is quite weak but pretty much my only way to kill stuff fast in melee.

Anyway, it's still a run full of mistakes but not that I care. I realised this particular style of STG isn't really my favourite...

  • What's more your favorite style? Vertical, lots of little patterns creeping like a web across the screen and ships, or am I missing something?

  • @regulusinmyhand Sora and Suguri are very atypical STGs as you can't usually move and fire continuously. I tend to prefer regular horis/verts with an easy to discern hitbox (here I think the entire sprite of Sora is the hitbox, although she's very small) and if enemies are going to come from all directions I would rather have a Thunder Force or an R-Type weapon system (with Wave, Hunter and stuff like that or a real lock-on laser/regular missiles system) instead of this lock feature.

  • I see your reasoning. Because the good weapons don't shoot continuously a.la touhou/r-type,

Suguri/Sora are more about timing the powerful shots you do take. Like only coming out of a dash if ur in a safe spot, or shooting as soon as you come out of a dash, timing your shots so you're not hit when you're firing, countering projectiles with your own flac. This engine is more like a fighting game in that way than a standard hold space-bar & move SHUMP. "Wave" would break the game's dash though.

  • @regulusinmyhand Indeed. In that regard, it seems to share more with Senko No Ronde than other shooting games. Boss really give away a feeling of fighting game. It's not A standing at the upper/right side of the screen showering bullets, it's as you said: a constant dash/crossfire and cancelling of flak and special moves. At first, it's quite tricky to get the hang of and somewhat frustrating for the trigger-happy people, lol.

  • I hope SORA doesn't gets sold out before I get a chance to buy this myself, it probably will happen...

  • @ViperAcidZX Nah, I bet rancor has some extra copies around and he can always try to find more. Plus if it ends up happening, Orange_Juice will surely print more soon.

  • @GloriousLight Those type of shooters are more appealing to those who play rhythm games or reflex based games. As such, this and Suguri are my favorite shooter games.

Also, I find it a tad ironic that even though I'm one of the ones that gave that gave the hint of using Artillery, I'll probably be taking hints from this video to beat this stage on Normal (as I didn't think about using a Hyper to get through tornadoes).
