  • Any child will progress in 3 years. But when an autistic child does, this is viewed as becoming less autistic. Autism does not mean developmental stasis, and just because your child learns things does not mean he is getting less autistic.

  • @Abnormaldiversity "Autism does not mean developmental stasis, and just because your child learns things does not mean he is getting less autistic." Actually, it can mean developmental stasis, depending on the severity of the individual and the quality of the interventions received.

  • @Abnormaldiversity I have friends' whose children are more severely impacted and in these last 4 years, the only things that have really changed are their height and weight. My son is no longer diagnosable under the Autism Spectrum (DSM-IV). So, yes, you can progress and become less autistic.

  • videos like this inspire us...i have a 4 yo son diagnosed with autism a week before his 2nd bday... had OT sessions for almost a yr nd stopped due to financial problems.. although we enrolled him back just last month for continuous therapy nd he's making good progress...he can count #'s and memorize the alphabet.. can speak now with 1 or 2 words.. pls help us pray for my son's continuous improvement... and for all the parents out there have faith in God....

  • I wonder why they don't initiate treatment over here in the U.K. I have been autistic all my life yet I was diagnosed aged 11 and I've had to learn the hard way. Although i'm now at university. I just want to break free from this disability as I want to be able to lead a normal life.

  • @Abnormaldiversity

    Well put!

So pleased ot hear that he is progressing, though.

  • My child was diagnosed with low functioning autism at 15 months had been in ABA for over 3 years- regressed the whole time, was also diagnosed with severe MR in June, now after 6 months he is recovering because of chelation. He has a lead level of 69, aluminum 140, tin 98, and mercury 7.2. Some children do NOT progress on their own and need medical intervention. My son is starting to speak and comprehend as well as dress himself and swim independently- Thank you sweet recovery!

  • well said!

  • Congratulations. You have come really really far. We are on the same journey. Thanks for giving us hope. As for all children with autism progressing. No, they don't, they usually continue to regress. Most adults with autism are unable to live independently.
