this is probably one of the most straightforward instructional videos on bass ever
-
watching his left hand on the floor is quite entertaining while blazed..

Sounds so much like a chapman stick! Very cool

I think personally as musicians everyone in dream theater is in the top 3 best for each instrument (to me they're #1 but to quiet down the trolls I said top 3) either way they all excel... This might sound stupid but go watch some hentai called love is the key to (something I can't remember) and just listen to the beginning music
Tell me this doesn't sound like it....

does anybody else want his bass? haha

I agree, that for his genre, John Myung is one of the best bassists around. Been to several DT shows and I always get the impression he is an even better bassist when he's doubling the lines that Petrucci, not only plays, but also writes? ...

that beginning bass thing is thing is the most mind-bending thing i've heard

@migueliax hah right, its kind of disrespectful too.

@andrewbautista23 He is doing descending fifths because tonal harmony is based on the relation dominant - tonic. The dominant is constructed on the perfect fifth above a chord, that's why, harmonically, the resolution of a dominant chord to his tonic is considered as a cycle of descending fifth, even if pratically it can be equally a descending fifth or an ascending fourth. This cycle of fifth can be applied in a tonality (diatonic) or not (chromatic) and with a large variety of chord types.
I love how he says "...for a band called Dream Theater" as if DT were a teenage garage band :D
