looks like the left rear column utterly failed, The question is how old is this lift and did it act strange or make noise before this happend?

@TheOldCrankyWorkshop I dunno man, I've had a few 'holes' that have cost me alot....especially in alimony, more than a lift costs thats for sure

must be one of those cheap ass china made lifts...i guess in china they are ok ..i mean their cars are probably only 1,200lbs ..keep china shit in china

something like this kinda happened to me when i was back in school i had my moms car on a two post lift and the smaller wire for the lower release lever snaped and the car droped like 6 in or so and as a mechanic studnet and it being my moms car my heart sank but lucky for me there was no damage and we found a way to manually lower the car but still was to close of a call.
