In this tutorial Im going to show you how to make shiny fondant (gum paste) ladybug (ladybird) with edible antennae. I am using rice noodles and edible varnish (aka confectioners glaze). Rice noodles could be purchased at your local supermarket in Asian food section and died with food color. Confectioners glaze could be purchased online if your local cake supply store does not have it.

To die rice noodles, boil some water, dissolve desired amount of gel food color in it, and drop dry noodles in it. Let them soak up the color for about 20 minutes, then take them out and spread on a sheet of foil and let dry. Store in airtight container.

  • The bug is beautiful! I can't wait to see more techniqes!

The quality of your voice is beautiful, but...

um.. you've.. um got to.. um.. stop.. um.. sayng.. um.. "um" all the.. um.. time.

Write down what you want to say and read it a few times aloud. When you get in front of the camera your mouth is ready with the words you want to use w/out having to pause and think.

Also, watch this several times in a row. You will automatically stop doing the things that annoy you.

  • Thank you kristae,

I agree to everything you said. It was my first try ever on video, and I'm not used to speak in public either, but I will try to improve, I promise! :)

  • How did you manage to make white glaze??

  • beautiful lady bug! Thanks so much for sharing!:-)

  • hi larissa what are the brushes your using that are transparent with a good grip i love them and wanted to purchase could you help me.. lovely tutorial.

  • I think this was very helpful but I have to admit that I completely agree with "kristae" I found the repeated "um..um...um.." distracting from watching the video. If you could work on that i think your tutorials would be much better! :) And Thank you, i made a ladybug for the top layer of my neice's birthday cake!

  • I'd like to make a clarinet out of gumpaste, do you have any recommendations. This would be my first try. I'm not planning on a full sized B flat. This will be placed on the top of a cake and the cake will have buttercream icing. thank you for any suggestion.

  • I enjoyed your video

  • Is there there any alternatives to make the glaze?
