Breed Specific Legislation: An Ineffective Policy

Powerful, savage, vicious, child mauling monsters; are thoughts and words commonly associated with the dog breeds collectively known as "pit bulls". Through-out the United States legislation has or threatens to be enacted specifically against these dogs. Breed specific legislations attempts to decrease dog attacks and fatalities by banning or regulating the pit bull. The breed as a whole, rather than the individual owners, is targeted for punishment. Still, dog attacks occur and the numbers do not decrease when this legislation is put into place. Breed specific legislation does NOT work and lacks any considerable reason that would justify its enactment.

Awesome video! Pit bulls are amazing loving dogs. And people shouldn't make assumption based on 3 or 4 dogs they hear about on the news. It's ALL ABOUT THE OWNER, NEVER THE DOG. No matter what breed! What makes me mad among the most, is the ignorance some people have. Ban the deed, not the breed!

I'm soo sorry. It's hard. It seems no matter how many experts, how much proof.. they won't listen because their too busied with their own personal prejudice, agenda, and bias. :( At times there are no people I dislike more than politicians.

@CodypennieandEfthemi ....My dog was also attacked by 2 pitbulls...he was almost killed, because of it though, the cops were able to shut down a pitbull fighting organization in the county I lived in. I use to be like you, but I got my eyes opened and am now a very proud pitbull ownerand couldn't imagine my life without my baby, becuz like you my dogs are are also my kids.

@CodypennieandEfthemi There the opposite of evil, this breed is an american icon full of life, courage and loyalty. Your comment is crude and unjust. Any trouble you have had with pitbulls is simply due to an irresponsible owner. Socializing goes along way with this breed. Every dog is an individual and should be treated so. My dog is my best friend and has had only the best , so she has turned out to be the best dog because of this. Only people are evil my boy.

You shouldn't blame the dog you should be blaming the owner just cause it was a pit doesn't mean anything. If it was any other type of dog would you think they should be banned? I know your answer is probably no so please don't judge them. It's not all pitts it's just those who have bad owners. For an 11 year old, You are smarter than most adults on here. I praise you for being an educated person, Who obviously has learnt much about their dog.

You remind me of myself at 11. Thats when I began speeches on BSL. You could do this too. It is proven an adult is more likely to listen to an cute child who proves with love, rather than an adult who uses statistics.

Get speaking my friend. Together we will show them how our dogs are not dangerous monsters, but they just want a hug.
