The Land Rover DC100 concepts showing off their features

Two new concepts from Land Rover investigate the future design possibilities of the iconic Defender.
Three-across front seat is inspired by early Land Rover vehicles.
Cutting-edge sustainable, hi-tech materials taken from luxury yachts, private jets and even spacecraft.
The concepts capture the flexibility, adaptability and configurability that have always been key attributes of Land Rover and continue in today's Defender.
DC100 demonstrates the future of Land Rover capability and versatility.
DC100 Sport is an active expression of freedom and adventure.
The Terrain-i scanning device warns the driver of obstacles when off-roading and can suggest alternative routes.
"Wade Aid" uses sonar technology to assess water depth and advise the driver of optimum speed for water fording.
Intelligent next-generation Land Rover Terrain Response® system automatically optimizes the vehicle for any surface or terrain.
Driver-activated spiked tire system can be deployed at the touch of a button.
Future paint technologies will allow for self-cleaning and healing paint and bodywork.
Both concepts are based on the same lightweight, mixed-alloy platform.
Four-wheel drive with a transfer case.
Eight-speed automatic transmission
Intelligent Engine Start/Stop technology
Driveline Disconnect physically decouples the rear axle to save fuel when four-wheel drive is not required.
2.0-liter, four-cylinder gasoline and diesel engines with hybrid and plug-in capabilities.
Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) Adventure key is a waterproof, lightweight alternative to the control fob.
Always-on connectivity and telematics allow for vehicle-to-smartphone, vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-base communication.
Built-in inductive charging stations throughout the concepts.
Land Rover confirms its global intention to launch a new Defender in 2015, with no current decision on whether or not the next generation Defender will come to the North American markets.

  • I'm not really sure why LR fans are so upset by this. I mean, you already have the real Defender you know and love. No need to be concerned with new stuff. I definitely would not pay money for a new vehicle that's exactly the same as it was 27 years ago. I assume those are the people LR is catering to. Enthusiasts always lose in the end. I personally only care about and will judge it by its utility and off road ability.

  • @Shift4g Exactly!

  • I have a 1968 Series IIA and this car disgusts me, it just shows land rover is turning into a boutique SUV brand for rich city dwellers.

  • the defender is dead and will be followed by landrover

  • the best things for offroad: kleenex box with a roof and 4 wheels. its what all offroading landies are about!

  • @goshawkman; Check Land Rovers latest sales figures and profits, I think you will find your comment is ill advised, ill informed and consequently incorrect.

  • @maxsoul7777 At least look on the bright side - your 1968 S2A just doubled in value as no self respecting proper Landie-person will want these. I've recently traded in my very tidy S3 for a good price against a mint early Defender I needed to tow with without the drama of 4 drum brakes and leaf springs.

I'm holding onto mine for keeps - like you say - it's all about bling for airheads

  • @Shift4g The reason they are so upset, is this heap of shite is replacing the defender.

  • Guys it had to be updated at some point. I'll be fine if it preforms better than the old one and is more reliable. Now if it can't do what the old one did, thats when I'll have a problem. Looking forward to seeing the 4 door version and what it can do.

  • I have a 1951 series one 80" which I love, I a massive fan of the Defender yet I quite like this DC100. I'm sure the production model won't look so "concepty" I'm picturing this car in bronze green with steel wheels etc and it looks good. Ive started saving already.

  • Defenders are supposed to be basic and utilitarian, like a Transit van, that is their appeal. This looks like how a nancy boy would design an off roader.
