Composers, especially video game composers making music for a final boss piece like this, often try to tell stories with the piece. It's not just "this piece is going to sound really good". So different parts representing different parts of the game / emotions / whatever, is pretty valid I would think.

I use Crono with maxed speed and strength for damage, Marle for healing and buffs, and Magus for pure crowd devestation. Everybody else in the game just seems weak to me
