This is the first operation of our GEK gasifier in our lab. It's CO and H2 that are burning from the gasification of regular wood pellets in the reactor in the red container. Had it up to 500 C in the reactor. Syngas is going to be used to run an experimental engine in the future.

  • This is a video of you guys flaring off the syngas? You say you are going to run an experimental engine off of it, is this a different engine from whats used on the power pallet?

  • @MatthewBanchero

Yes, we are flaring the syngas, and the system is drawn from a compressed air line out of view. We are altering the mixture ratio of syngas to oxygen by changing the flow from the compressed air line. That is what is causing more flow, and is altering the richness of the mixture. The experimental engine is not the one used in the power pallet. I am not entirely sure what the engine specs are because I wasn't the one who purchased it. I'll try to figure out what it is though!

  • Wow, that is quite a flame! How big of an engine will this run?

  • Let me guess! the system is batch fed using a air lock or similar to introuduce more materials on a regular interval. Problem is requires too much manpower. A continual flow is needed in order to ever be successful commercially. Nice Work though. Clean running and well built system.

  • Nice flame. It looks like you are in a lab? Where are you doing your research?

  • Through the four stages of breaking down biomass, drying, pyrolosis, reduction and then combustion as you see here, you get CO H2 and some methane, then you combust them, here, as in this video+experimentation of GEK flare, with O2, in the air from the compressor hose, creating CO2 and H2O. and HEAT+Radiation. • how is the oxgygen / carbon monoxides removed from syn gas to get hydrogen
