Edinburgh is a great place to visit with plenty of things to do. If your a thrillseeker then you might enjoy a motorbike tour with Trike Tours Scotland Ltd. Why not visit Edinburgh Zoo which is home to 1000 different animals with daily highlights including the famous Penquin Parade. There are also picnic areas to enjoy around the 82 acres of land including two restaurants.
Auld Reekie Tours provides visitors with a scary experience heading underneath the Old Town within underground vaults where paranormal activity has been sighted rumors have. For the younger age group, there is Kiss the Fish Studios, based in Stockbridge, Edinburgh which is both a gift shop and an arts and crafts studio. A similar experience is with the Imagination Workshop, Edinburgh based at Marchmont.
At Newtongrange, the Scottish Mining Museumn is an interesting place to visit having received a five star rating for the fifth time where visitors can see the miners way of life through two floors of exhibitions. Kids can enjoy playful fun at the Time Twisters Indoor Play Centre which also has a restaurant for the grown ups.
If your getting married, perhaps a stag night would be ideal where Edinburgh Stag might be able to help you out.
For the more artistic person, Edinburgh is home to a good size of theatres and cinemas which include the Lyceum Theatre, The Kings Theatre, Edinburgh Festival Theatre, Edinburgh Filmhouse, Cameo Cinema, Dominion Cinema, Odean and two VUE cinemas at Ocean Terminal and at the Omni Centre.
Further away from Edinburgh but in Scotland in Perthshire is the opportunity to try out Water Rafting with Spash White Water Rafting based in Aberfeldy.
A great list of things to do are the following:
Attend the Edinburgh Festivals which include Film, Jazz, Comedy, Arts, Science, Magic, Childrens, Mela and others. You can also visit the Camera Obscura and the World of illusion. Another suggestion is to climb a volcano in the form of Arthur's Seat and also a trip to Dynamic Earth which has all of the information on how the landmark was formed.
The One O'clock gun fires everyday at 1pm which always surprises tourists, it's super to watch it and the views from the Castle are excellent. I also recommend that you creep around after dark attending the Ghost Tours in the evenings. Some of Edinburgh's Whisky centres should be visited too allowing visitors to taste that famous Scottish drink.
Edinburgh is attractive for it's historical architecture where there a few places you should check out including; the Scottish Storytelling Centre, John Knox House and the Scottish Poetry Library. There is an unusual sight to be seen at the Royal Botanical Gardens too, the former site of Edinburgh Zoo before it moved to Costorphine where the gardens have a Chinese theme to them. Some of the best restaurants are around too where haggis should be placed on your menu.
New Year could be spent in Edinburgh too with a week full of activities sure not to disappoint. There is a torchlight procession, winter fairground attractions and a large street party to experience. Walking also makes up a good part of enjoying Edinburgh's setting where the nearby Pentlands Hills and Braid Hills are excellent for hillwalkers and golfers.
Seeing the haar from afar is something everybody should get to see. The best views are from the top of the Scott Monument and Edinburgh Castle. The castle itself is a day worth of fun too.
My personal recommendations are slightly more unusual. I would suggest that you travel to North Berwick or Gullane for the day on the beech which are excellent for enjoying a day's outing. In the summer, there is the world class Royal Edinburgh Tattoo to visit and year round Festivals. The Film Festival takes place in June which is an exciting time.
Another unique experience is visiting the Secret Garden and Sheep Heids Pub in Duddingston Village on the edge of Arthur's Seat. One of Scotland's oldest Filmmaking Socities should be visited too at the Edinburgh Cine & Video Society which has an archive of material including the 1930's trams.
