Jascha Heifetz plays Saint-Saëns Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso from the 1939 film "They Shall Have Music". (Other versions of this clip exist on youtube but all the ones I could find had the pitch raised almost 1/2 step, and as this is likely among the greatest performances of this piece of all time, I wanted to make a correct version is available!)

  • @peterCheater he had some shoulder padding sewn into his suitjacket. he also had a short neck

  • Heifeitz!? HOW DID YOU VIBRATO WITHOUT THE USING OF SHOULDER REST!?!?!? HOW IN GODS NAME!?

  • Heifetz the master...the legend. :') I wish you were still alive. :( My number one favorite, the greatest of them all.He was one who always made you gape in total awe.Every performance was perfection.I would have killed to see him perform.I can tell you I would have broken down and cried at the end if that ever happened.Even now, just watching him in this recording...I get all teary in admiration.Rest in peace, maestro!Only the Gods are a worthy audience for you.

  • what Heifetz is able to do musically and technically here would score all 10's in the Olympics, and something extra, beyond what we would think was humanly possible, that makes him an invincible super hero of the violin.

  • @Methotrexat3 ...I'm a cellist from LA. I know many of the musicians in the kids' orchestra(the Peter Merenblum Youth Orchestra)...quite a few of them went on to be professionals....I've also heard Heifetz in live concert 5 times...nobody was or is even close...sorry about the smart ass remark...the conductor of the pro orchestra is Alfred Newman...

  • @glenngrabcello ahahah! Thanks. - Oh, I watched the entire movie. The best scene is the fiddle crash one, when the father's boy doesn't want the kid study music.

  • back when they used real musicians in movies...

  • @Methotrexat3 ....tell us something we don't know, genius!!!

  • Beautiful!!! This is probably the most beautiful music ever!!

    Sincerely,

    Liakhovetski Brothers

  • Wonder if the kid who left grew up and put in that one dislike vote.
