If you watch the Matrix trilogy in one sitting, you'll realize that this scene is the only one featuring a computer in any real way.

I don't think solid black screens with green text doing funky stuff in the background counts, either. It makes a great screensaver, and it just screams "Matrix", but it's not computing.

They're good movies, but they're not hacker films, they're scifi-adventure flicks.

By the way, if you look close, you'll notice Trinity uses nmap, as well as the highly dubious command "disable grid nodes 21 - 48", which I think is a bad fake command.

A better fake command would be: "grid-disable --nodes 21..48". I'm such a nerd.

  • Trinity@Linux:~$ apt-get remove Matrix

  • When nmap show "ssh". Then she attempts to nuke the server with "sshnuke 10.2.2.2 -rootpw=Z10n0101" . I think the "sshnuke" tool was written after the movie.

She logs in with the new password.

The login shell seems to be a custom one, not bash, not a standard Unix shell.

The command "disable grids nodes 21 - 40" is a custom one, too.

Such a command could exists in some customs systems. It is easy to write a simple shell with a few customs commands. Take a look at BusyBox.

  • @ModulatedSignal apt-get!? so the matrix is under a ubuntu/debian machine? :(

something as cool as the matrix should be under plan 9, or at least bsd or arch/gentoo.

  • @alwayschooseford might i ask how?

  • @mlqty /geeky/idiot/g

  • nmap!

  • @guatagel sorry, geeky response here, but the '#' symbol is the shell prompt for the root shell (which is basically game over if someone gets it on your machine)

  • @GodsDead u know cause every power grid has ssh capabilities! Right? (Sarcasm)
