Siwar Q'ente: Kuntur Kuntur (Condor Condor)

Here is an extract of an ultra-rare record by one of the greatest Peruvian sopranos.
Considered as the successor of Yma Sumac, Siwar Q'ente (real name Ana Condori Sulca) is one of the greatest coloraturas of Peru, who was especially famous in the sixties and the seventies. She has made many songs in Spanish and Quechua and still performs, aged 69. She was in her teens a great admirer of Yma Sumac and, after having won a song contest in her region, she was signed in 1954 in Lima. She became quickly famous and was nicknamed "Siwar Q'ente", which means in Quechua "Sparkling Violetear" (Colibri coruscans). Aged only 19, she toured in the United states, in Miami, in Chile, Argentina, Bolivia, Ecuador and Japan. She worked with great specialists of Andean folklore and competed with the greatest international singers of her time. She received numerous awards and prizes for her defence of the Peruvian repertoire.
