In this video, Kate Munger leads the Threshold Choir and the audience at the Nov 8, 2008 Sisters Singing book publication celebration in singing her prayer-song for Barack Obama "Keep You Safe."

On that night, over 400 people gathered in Santa Cruz, California to celebrate the publication of Sisters Singing: Blessings, Prayers, Art, Songs, Poetry and Sacred Stories by Women. It was four days after the election of President Barack Obama, and everyone was thrilled to celebrate the book's publication, and his election.

Sixteen poets read their work, a dozen artists showed original artwork. Alysia Tromblay performed music, and the Threshold Choir sang.

BIO: Kate Munger is a singer and songwriter who lives with her family, sings, works and swims along the shores of Tomales Bay, and has led community singing for more than 30 years. In 2000 Kate founded the first Threshold Choir for women who are called to sing at the bedsides of people who are dying, ill, or in a coma, and with women who are incarcerated. Today there are 45 Threshold Choirs and 800 singers in the U.S. These choirs bring together a magnificent community of huge-hearted, collaborating, creative women who know that true service heals everyone. The choirs have released two CDs: Listening at the Threshold and Tenderly Rain: Songs of Gratitude, Remembrance & Keeping Watch.

ABOUT THE THRESHOLD CHOIR: The all-women Threshold Choirs honor the ancient tradition of singing at the bedsides of people who are struggling: some with living, some with dying. The voice, as the original human instrument, is a true and gracious vehicle for compassion and comfort. The choirs provide opportunities for women to share the sacred gifts of their voices at life's thresholds. When they are invited to a bedside, they visit in small groups. They invite families and caregivers to join in song or to participate by listening. They choose songs to respond to musical taste, spiritual direction, and physical capacity. The songs may include rounds, chants, lullabies, hymns, spirituals, and choral music. The service is their gift; there is no charge. They gratefully accept donations for their ongoing expenses.
